Amtrak Public Meeting on Accessibility of Long Distance Trains

On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, Amtrak will hold a public meeting to solicit feedback on the accessibility of overnight Long Distance trains. Amtrak will be purchasing new trains to modernize its fleet on its Long Distance routes and is seeking rider experience and feedback on how to make its trains more accessible.

The meeting will be livestreamed and opened to the public. The meeting starts at 10:00 a.m. ASL and CART will be provided.

According to the public notice, Amtrak wants to provide customers with disabilities the best possible onboard experience and is preparing designs for new Long Distance trains that will enhance accessibility.

#AdvocacyMatters

We know the Americans with Disabilities Act supports the principle of full inclusion and integration, not segregation. We deserve, and the law requires, full access for people with disabilities on trains. It is extremely important for advocates to submit written comments or attend the public meeting virtually and provide comments. The deadline for written comment is September 5. The public meeting to solicit in-person and virtual comments is Wednesday, August 30. Visit www.disabilityrightspa.org for a link to all the information and to register for the public meeting.
