Voting is underway across the country today. It’s the general election and what we consider a non-congressional election year.
In Pennsylvania, like other states, we are voting on local elections and ballot questions.
All elections matter for people with disabilities. City Councils fix roads and curbs and work on housing and transportation issues.
The National Disability Rights Network found that people with disabilities are concerned about candidates and elected officials who address issues that our community faces.
The disability community is more likely to vote for a candidate that votes for legislation that supports people with disabilities. We want these issues addressed and we would be more likely to vote for a candidate or elected official who voted in favor of programs that benefit people with disabilities.
There is support if you run into barriers when you vote today.
Pennsylvanians with disabilities who need information or encounter problems at their polling place or casting a private and independent vote can contact Disability Rights Pennsylvania.
