Person-First Language Resolutions Adopted

Both the Pennsylvania Senate and House of Representatives have unanimously passed Resolutions for person-first language for people with disabilities!

These Resolutions urge the Commonwealth to use respectful and positive language about people with disabilities. These Resolutions are the first of their kind in Pennsylvania and perhaps nationally.

Thank you to the General Assembly for taking this important step for people with disabilities. A special thank you to the lead sponsors, Senator Shirley Kitchen, Senator Patricia Vance, Representative Gene DiGirolamo, and Representative Angel Cruz.

Each of the Resolutions lists all of the co-sponsors, and we appreciate their support.

We hope for a final Pennsylvania budget that puts people with disabilities first in human services, education, and Vocational Rehabilitation. Click here for our recommendations on the budget.
