Senate Confirms New Rehabilitation Services Administration Commissioner

Earlier this month, the United States Senate officially confirmed Danté Quintin Allen to a Presidential appointed position as Commissioner of the Department of Education Rehabilitation Services Administration.

Allen’s confirmation comes after a rigorous vetting process, where his qualifications, experience, and dedication were evaluated by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Allen has an impressive background in public service.  He serves as the Executive Director of CalALE, California’s qualified federal ABLE (A Better Life Experience) Act savings program for people with disabilities.  Allen has led CalABLE since its launch in 2018.  Prior to CalABLE, Allen served as a communication professional in public and private sectors such as the California Department of Public Health Office of Health Equity and Kaiser Permanente.

Allen is a person with a disability and staunch proponent of disability rights and equity.

The Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) is a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Education.  Its primary purpose is to provide leadership and resources to state and other agencies to support individuals with disabilities in achieving employment.  RSA works collaboratively with state vocational rehabilitation (VR) agencies to provide a range of services including vocational counseling, job training, job placement, assistive technology, and other supports to obtain or maintain employment.
