Disability Rights Pennsylvania seeks to end illegal segregation of people with psychiatric disabilities in State Hospitals

On April 17, 2023, Disability Rights Pennsylvania (DRP)  filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of a class of individuals with psychiatric disabilities against the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) for violations of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA).  The lawsuit challenges the unnecessary and illegal segregation of people with psychiatric disabilities in state psychiatric institutions and the failure to ensure people with psychiatric disabilities are provided the services they need in community-based settings.  The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.  Read the complaint here and the press release here.
