DRP Assists Community HealthChoices Waiver Participant in Restoring Personal Assistance Services Hours

DRP successfully represented a Luzerne County man with disabilities, who is enrolled in the Community HealthChoices waiver program, in an appeal of his managed care organization’s reduction, by almost half, of his weekly hours of personal assistance services, which provided him with the assistance he needed to continue to live in the community.  The managed care organization reduced his services without explanation and despite the fact that the personal assistance services that the man was receiving were required to assist him with activities of daily living, cueing, and supervision for safety. The man had been successfully living in the community with 70 hours of personal assistance services per week. As a result of DRP’s advocacy on his behalf, the man’s personal assistance services were restored to the previously-approved level of 70 hours per week.
