DRP signs on to Amicus Brief in the Appeal of Charles Hymer v. Timothy Cross, et al.

DRP, along with Pennsylvania Institutional Law Project, signed on to an amicus brief speaking out against a District Court decision from the Pennsylvania Middle District which dismissed at the screening stage an inmate’s appeal of the Department of Correction’s (DOC) decision to take him off his medication for opioid use disorder. The DOC made the decision not based on medical reasoning but on an allegation of “diversion”. DRP recognizes the important roll medication serves in fighting opioid addiction, particularly in the carceral setting, and thus supports appellant’s quest to access his medication.
