DRP signs on to Amicus Brief in the Appeal of N.E.M., A Child in Custody

DRP, along multiple other juvenile justice organizations, signed on to an amicus brief speaking out against the Superior Court’s decision to dismiss, without explanation, minor N.E.M’s appeal of a lower court’s order placing him in an out-of-home placement. The brief highlighted the fact that the Superior Court’s decision to deny the appeal subverts longstanding protections for the care and safety of juvenile youth, including limitations on judge’s authority to confine them. The brief recognized that meaningful and timely appellate review is necessary to curtail the grave harms out-of-home placements cause.
